ANGELES - Disney announced on Monday that they bought YouTube channel
operators, Maker Studios for $ 500 million dollars according to the
company's goal is to maintain a family entertainment that more and more
young viewers to watch a short video in the virtual domain.
Purchase the YouTube channel operators provide ownership 55,000 video channel for Disney, including the Epic Rap Battles of History and The Fashion Statement owned Amy Pham. When combined, Maker has 380 million customers and generate 5.5 trillion views a month.
Buying Maker Studios will help Disney embrace the young audience, said Kevin Mayer, Disney's executive vice president for corporate strategy, said in an interview.
"They've got the biggest audience on YouTube. It's hard to compete with them, "said Mayer.
Mayer added Disney could find new talent for their movies and TV shows on the channel Maker Studios.
This purchase will slightly reduce the income shares of Disney to the fiscal year 2017, Mayer said.
Disney shares rose 11 cents to 79.60 dollars in sales after the market close on Monday after falling 86 cents, or 1.1 percent, to close at 79.49 on the trading price of the ordinary.
